Rotational and Vibrational Dynamics of Interstitial Molecular Hydrogen

چکیده
The calculation of the hindered roton-phonon energy levels of a hydrogen molecule in a confining potential with different symmetries is systematized for the case when the rotational angular momentum J is a good quantum number. One goal of this program is to interpret the energy-resolved neutron time of flight spectrum previously obtained for H2C60. This spectrum gives direct information on the energy level spectrum of H2 molecules confined to the octahedral interstitial sites of solid C60. We treat this problem of coupled translational and orientational degrees of freedom a) by construction of an effective Hamiltonian to describe the splitting of the manifold of states characterized by a given value of J and having a fixed total number of phonon excitations, b) by numerical solutions of the coupled translation-rotation problem on a discrete mesh of points in position space, and c) by a group theoretical symmetry analysis. Results obtained from these three different approaches are mutually consistent. The results of our calculations explain several hitherto uninterpreted aspects of the experimental observations, but show that a truly satisfactory orientational potential for the interaction of an H2 molecule with a surrounding array of C

Induced infrared absorption of molecular hydrogen in solid C
We report on the observation of induced infrared absorption in a molecular species trapped within a C60 lattice. Infrared spectra for interstitial H2 show distinct rotational and translational side-bands superimposed on the H2’s highly redshifted (54 cm ) fundamental vibrational mode. Data indicate that the hydrogen is rotating almost completely freely while at the same time undergoing localize...
متن کاملPhotolysis of hydrogen chloride embedded in the first argon solvation shell: Rotational control and quantum dynamics of photofragments
Under standard conditions reaction yields are connected with terms like free energy differences and thermal distributions. However, many modern experimental techniques, such as supersonic beam expansion or matrix isolation, deal with cryogenic temperatures and isolated reactants in inert clusters or solid matrices. Under these conditions the photochemical reaction mechanism is in many cases str...
متن کاملTransfer of rovibrational energies in hydrogen plasma–carbon surface interactions
We present state-of-the-art molecular dynamics (MD) simulations of high-density plasma-bombardment of carbon, mimicking plasma–wall interactions at the fusion reactor first wall. Bare and hydrogenated amorphous carbon surfaces with temperatures in the range of 300–800 K are bombarded by a distribution of neutral hydrogen molecules representing well-defined center-of-mass and rovibrational tempe...

Enaminones are those structures made up three various functional groups including carbonyl, alkeneand amine groups which arelocated along with each other in a conjugate fashion. These compoundsare of much attention due to special characteristics and numerous applications. In the paper, sixvarious enaminone structures were theoretically optimized and after concluding, were compared withequivalen...
متن کاملRelease of hydrogen molecules from the photodissociation of amorphous solid water and polycrystalline ice at 157 and 193 nm.
The production of H(2) in highly excited vibrational and rotational states (v=0-5, J=0-17) from the 157 nm photodissociation of amorphous solid water ice films at 100 K was observed directly using resonance-enhanced multiphoton ionization. Weaker signals from H(2)(v=2,3 and 4) were obtained from 157 nm photolysis of polycrystalline ice, but H(2)(v=0 and 1) populations in this case were below th...
